This is the place where you visit to work on the lessons. You can go online and do your lessons anytime, anywhere. You can customize your course and work on lessons according to your needs.
To sign up for a new language click on the drop-down button next to "Sign up for a new language", choose the language and press "Add"
To go to a different course click on the drop down button next to "I am Learning", choose the language and press "OK"
- 4.1 Courses Overview
Hello-Hello courses were developed in collaboration with The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). All lessons are conversational meaning you can engage in a normal conversation based on the material from Lesson 1!
ACTFL is the largest association of teachers and administrators of all languages at all levels, serving more than 12,000 educators. For more information, please visit their website www.actfl.org.

Our courses are divided in 3 Levels with 10 lessons each

At Level 1 you can complete some basic tasks in their new language. Given adequate time and familiar cues, you can exchange greetings, tell someone who you are, where you are from, where you live, and name a number of familiar objects from your immediate environment. You can write some of the words you have learned. Level 1 has 10 lessons.

At Level 2 you can communicate using an expanded vocabulary and memorized phrases about yourself and your life. You can ask and answer simple questions about your daily schedule, about the weather and your favorite cuisine, music and more. You are able to write simple messages. You can ask for repetition if you don’t understand something. Level 2 has 10 lessons.

At Level 3 you can handle numerous tasks that are easy and involve straightforward social situations. Conversation revolves around predictable topics necessary for survival in the target language culture, such as asking for directions, getting around an airport or hotel, using the Internet or going to a restaurant. As a Level 3 speaker you will be able respond to simple, direct questions or requests for information. You can perform simple writing tasks. Level 3 has 10 lessons.

- 4.2 Lessons Structure
The lessons are divided in 10 sections:
- 4.2.1 Here’s the Situation
Here you will just listen to the dialogues and get familiar with the sound of the language. You can play the dialogue as many times as you want and try to guess what it is saying before moving to the next step.
- 4.2.2 Here’s how to Write it
This where you will see the written version of the dialogue in the language you are learning. You can play the dialogue again if you wish, just click on the Play button.
- 4.2.3 Getting the Meaning
Here you will see the written version of the dialogue in the language you are learning and below the translation of the dialogue in the default language for translation so you can understand what that dialogue means. Please note that the translations ARE NOT direct translations.
*You can change the default language for translation by going to the Profile Page - "Edit Profile" - "Details" and changing the default language for translation. Please note that the only languages available for translation are the ones for which we offer courses.
You can also hear the dialogue if you wish by clicking on the Play button.
- 4.2.4 Now You Say It
This is where you begin to practice your speaking skills with the dialogue sentence by sentence. Just click on the Play button to hear each sentence at a time. You should repeat each sentence out loud to begin training your pronunciation. You can repeat the same sentence as much as you want or go to the next sentence. You can also check how the sentence is written by pressing the "Show Text"
- 4.2.5 Now You Write It
This section allows you to practice your writing skills. Press the Play button, listen to the sentence and write that same sentence in the box. After you finish, press "Check" button to see if you have made any mistakes.
- 4.2.6 Build Your Vocabulary
This is where you can practice and increase your vocabulary. Click on each highlighted word to see alternative options. You can hear each of the words in the drop down box and the translation of each word will be inside the parenthesis. The translation is based on the language you have chosen to be the default language for translation.
* You can change the default language for translation by going to the Profile Page - "Edit Profile" - "Details" and changing the default language for translation. Please note that the only languages available for translation are the ones for which we offer courses.
You can save the words to your FLASHCARDS and practice them later. You can either save all the words by clicking on the "Add all to flashcards" or select specific words and click on "Add to Flashcards" to practice them later.
When you save words to your flashcards you can either create a new set or add the words to a set that you already have.
Please note that on the Hello-Hello cards you will find ALL complete sets and the name of the sets will be the same as the one you see on the top of the drop down button.
- 4.2.7 Let’s Practice 1
Here you will begin to practice what you have learned. Click on the answer that is the most appropriate response for each question or sentence. After you finish press "Submit" to check your responses.
Let’s Practice 2
Now is your chance to interact with the community and get help from native speakers by submitting exercises to your friends for review. You will be able to see their feedbacks on the TEACH section by clicking on any of your submissions. You should also contribute and review their submissions as well!
- Please note:
- - You can delete any of your submissions by going to TEACH, "My submissions" list and clicking on "Delete" next to each of your submission.
- - You can submit more than one submission for the same exercise but a new response overwrites the previous one.
- 4.2.8 How is My Pronunciation
Press the "Record" button and read the dialogue out loud. When you finish, press "Stop" and then "Send" to submit the exercise to your friends for review. You can listen to your recording before submitting by clicking on "Play" BEFORE clicking on "Send".
If you wish to replace the recording just click on "Record" button again and begin recording. Once you click on "Send" you cannot replace the audio file. You will need to have Java installed in your computer. To get Java software for free click here:http://www.java.com.
* If you are using a laptop, you probably have a microphone built in the computer. Check the volume of your microphone before recoding.
Windows Vista: Go to: Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Recording - Select the microphone - Levels
Mac: Go to: System Preferences - Sound - Input - 4.2.9 Check out My Written Response
Follow the instructions for the exercise and write your response in the box. Press "Submit" to send your exercises to your friends for review.
- 4.2.10 Check out Oral Response
Follow the instructions of the exercise, press the "Record" button and record your response. When you finish, press "Stop" and then "Send" to submit the exercise to your friends for review. You can listen to your recording before submitting by clicking on "Play" BEFORE clicking on "Send".

- 4.3 Supporting Features
- 4.3.1 Dictionary
You can look up the meaning of any word with out dictionary feature. Click on the Dictionary (design) tab, type the word in the appropriate box and click "OK" to see get the meaning.
- 4.3.2 Translator
You can translate any word to other languages with out translator tool. Just type the word in the box below the lesson, choose the languages and click "Translate". Our translator supports the following languages and more:

With the flashcards feature you will be able to practice words and sentences to enhance your vocabulary. You can practice from sets created by us (Hello-Hello), by you (My Cards) and by your friends (My Friends’ Cards). Each flashcard set can have multiple cards.
- 4.3.3.1 Hello-Hello Cards
These are the Flashcards sets prepared by us and they will correspond to all lists you will see on the "Build Your Vocabulary" step of each lesson. Hello-Hello cards you have 82 sets with a total of almost 1,000 words. Sets are organized by alphabetical order. Here you will be able to:
- Review Cards:
- Open a set: Click on the drop-down button, choose a set and click "Go"
- Flip card: Click on "Flip Card" to see the front or the back of the cards.
- Go to the next card: Click on the "Next" icon (white arrow) to see the next card.
- Change the language: You can choose and modify the language for the front and the back of the card at anytime. Click on the drop-down button by "Front" and "Back" choose the language and click "Go". On the Hello-Hello cards you can choose between all the languages that we currently offer.
- Copy a set:
- You can save any of the Hello-Hello sets to your cards to practice later. Select the set, click on "View Complete List" - "Copy list", select the words you want to save and give a name to your set. Click on "Copy and Save". The set will be saved to "My Cards"
- 4.3.3.2 My Cards
These are your Flashcards sets. They can be sets that you saved from the Hello-Hello or your Friends cards or new sets that you created. Here you have more flexibility since you can fully customize your sets.
- Review Cards:
- Open a set: Click on the drop-down button, choose a set and click "Go"
- Flip card: Click on "Flip Card" to see the front or the back of the cards.
- Go to the next card: Click on the "Next" icon (white arrow) to see the next card.
- Change language: You can choose and modify the language for the front and the back of the card at anytime. Click on the drop-down button by "Front" and "Back" choose the language and click "Go". On your sets you can only choose between the 2 languages you used to create each set.
- Edit Cards:
- Open the set of card, click "Edit" (located below the card), make the changes and click "Save"
- Review Cards:
- Create new: Choose the name of the set, click on "Create New", select the language of the front and the back of the cards and type the words. Click "Add" to add other words to the set. When you finish adding words click on "Save" to create the set. When you create cards you can select between any language for the front or for the back.
- Copy a list from your friends’ card: Choose the name of the set, click on "Copy", select your friend and choose the set you wish to copy. Once it opens you will see a list of the cards on the set and then you can select which words you want to add to your set. Click on "Copy and Save" to create the sets.
- Edit a set:
- Open the set of cards and click on "View Complete List", select the words you wish to remove and click "delete" or click on "Add New" to create a new card.
- Add new cards to the set:
- Open the set of cards and click "Add", select the language for the front and the back, type the words and click "Save".
- 4.3.3.3 My Friends’ Cards
These are the sets created by your friends. Here you can:
- Review Cards:
- Open a set: Click on the drop-down button, choose a friend and a set and click "Go".
- Flip card: Click on "Flip Card" to see the front or the back of the cards.
- Go to the next card: Click on the "Next" icon (white arrow) to see the next card.
- Change the language: You can choose and modify the language for the front and the back of the card at anytime. Click on the drop-down button by "Front" and "Back" choose the language and click "Go". On your friends’ sets you can only choose between the 2 languages they used to create each set.
- Copy a Set:
- You can save a friend’s set to your cards to practice later. Select the set, click on "View Complete List" - "Copy list", select the words you want to save and give a name to your set. Click on "Copy and Save". The set will be saved to "My Cards".
- 4.3.3.4 Communicate with your friends
- You can communicate with your friend in the following ways:
- - Chat:
- - Message: Send/receive messages from your friends on the Messages page
- - Exercises feedback: Another form of communicating with your friends is by giving them feedback on their exercises submissions (Written and Oral) and answering their questions. Please go to TEACH section for more information on how to help your friends learning your language.

- 4.3.4 Notes
You can make notes at anytime during a lesson and save them. Go to the Note box on the right side, type the your note and click "Save". You can view all your notes by clicking on "View All"
- 4.3.1 Dictionary
- 4.4 Questions
You can submit questions to your friends by clicking on the question box (right hand corner) and "Submit". To view answers to your questions as well as help your friends and answer their questions go to "TEACH" - "Questions"
